World War I was still raging when “Hearts of the World: A Love Story of the Great War” was released. D.W. Griffith’s 1918 drama was created as war propaganda, at the request of the British government, to drum up American support for the war.

The movie stars Lillian Gish in a story about a peaceful French village torn apart by the invasion of the German army, and two young lovers whose lives are disrupted by The Hun.

The movie will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 1 and 4 p.m. at New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington St. Admission to the film is free with admission to the museum, which is $15, $12 seniors, $10 students and teens ages 13 to 17, free for children younger than 12. Popcorn also is free. nbmaa.org.
